Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded virtually acapella spiritual Selassie Is The Chapel in 1968. Its lyrics, inspired by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie’s trip to Jamaica two years previously, were written by Mortimer Planno, a Cuban born drummer and activist who was instrumental in Marley’s conversion to Rastafarianism. Haunting and beautiful, the song is a vital stepping stone from the smart suited rocksteady and ska of The Wailers’ early years to the more spiritually aware artist who would emerge in the 1970s...

Bar a brief reissue in France in the mid 90s, the song has largely remained in the vaults until now as Marley’s original label, JAD Records, are releasing it as a limited edition 7” vinyl, limited to just 2000 copies of which MOJO are giving a handful away to a select few lucky readers. Simply CLICK HERE for your chance to win a copy of this ultra rare gem.
