Kenney Jones, drummer in The Small Faces as well as The Faces and, for a time, The Who, has announced the launch of his own independent record label – Nice Records.

The first album to be released on the label, Small Faces – 1966, features the band’s earliest known recorded live concert, at Twenty Club in Mouscron, Belgium in January 1966. Both early and late shows are included. “It’s great to launch Nice Records and to be able to take back control of the Small Faces products and recordings,” says Jones. “I have assembled a first-class team who understand the importance of the Small Faces legacy.”

Jones’ plan is to maintain the quality of live recordings from his back catalogue, and to rightfully distribute royalties, Nice is set to release remastered and restored recordings of more early performances by The Small Faces, as well as previously unheard studio session work from Jones’ personal archive.

Rob Caiger, Small Faces archivist and producer, says of the 1966 live album: “The two concerts featured on this new Small Faces - Live 1966 album are different to the releases that exploit the so-called loophole around things like radio broadcasts of live gigs and sessions. When we listened to the recording in Kenney’s archive, it was obvious there were issues with things like pitch and speed which needed correcting. So we did that and restored two 55-year-old live gigs to the best quality they could possibly be. It really is the only way you’ll hear how incredible the Small Faces were at this early stage of their career.”

The album can be streamed or downloaded now across all major UK and EU digital platforms.

Other formats include a 180g heavyweight coloured 2LP (gatefold sleeve), 1CD and a Coloured 2LP with alternative cover artwork and print signed by Kenney Jones (Limited to 1000 copies.)

Please note - all coloured vinyl is strictly limited in number.
