Following days of speculation, Oasis have announced that they will be reforming for a run of stadium gigs in the UK next year.
The shows will be Oasis' first UK and Ireland shows in 16 years and will see them play Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin, including four nights at Wembley Stadium. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday August 31.
The shows will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the band's second album Morning Glory?. It had previously been thought that a rapprochement between the Gallagher brothers might happen in time for this year's anniversary of debut album Definitely Maybe. However, speaking to MOJO earlier this year, Liam revealed that Noel had turned down a previous offer to reform the band, who he walked out on following an argument with Liam backstage in Paris in 2009.
“Noel? He ain’t fucking doing it,” Liam told MOJO’s Ted Kessler.
Noel Gallagher had suggested on Talksport Radio that all Liam had to do was call him up to see about healing the rift that’s existed since Oasis split, but Liam claimed an offer to reform was rejected by his older brother.
“I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team,” reported Liam. “We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing – because we got offered it – and he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it, he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the Definitely Maybe thing and have a nice time without him.”
In the end, Liam embarked on his own tour to mark Definitely Maybe's anniversary, performing the album, B-sides and rarely aired songs from the time. You can read MOJO's report of Liam's show at London's O2 Arena HERE.
Speaking in MOJO 365, Liam speculated whether 2025 would finally see him and his brother bury the hatchet and reform Oasis.
“It’s down to the universe. It’ll happen when it happens, it’s not in our hands anymore,” he said. “Me, I love nostalgia though. I’m doing the lot. Every album, even… what was the last one?”
Dig Out Your Soul?
“Fucking right, man! You never enjoy them the first time round, so I’ll be milking the lot. People say it’s the comfort zone – I want to be in the comfort zone! Bring me my slippers and my little blankie and put me in the comfort zone, please. Life’s stressful enough.”
