After scoring a number one last year with Ultra Mono, IDLES’ rapid and radical follow-up CRAWLER is due to be released on November 12 on the Partisan label. And you can see the video for the first single, The Beachland Ballroom, now.
The Beachland Ballroom, named after a venue in Cleveland, Ohio, marks a significant departure for IDLES, integrating soulful notes into their anthemic hardcore. Like the rest of CRAWLER, it was recorded during the lockdown at the Real World studios in Bath, and produced by IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen along with hip-hop producer Kenny Beats.

IDLES frontman Joe Talbot described the track as “The most important song on the album.” He added, “There's so many bands that go through the small rooms and dream of making it into the big rooms. Being able to write a soul tune like this made me go, fuck -- we’re at a place where we're actually allowed to go to these big rooms and be creative and not just go through the motions and really appreciate what we’ve got. The song is sort of an allegory of feeling lost and getting through it. It's one that I really love singing.”
